At 53, Sunjay Kapur passed away.
The billionaire, who was born in India, died on Thursday, June 12, the same day that an Air India plane carrying more than 200 people crashed in Ahmedabad. He was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a manufacturer of auto parts.
Kapur’s final social media post was paying tribute to those who had died. He wrote on the day in question, “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.”
An avid polo player, Kapur is said to have swallowed a bee while participating in the game in Windsor, UK.
The 53-year-old, who is reportedly pals with Prince William, is believed to have gone into anaphylactic shock as a result of this.
Anaphylactic shock is described as ‘a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction’ by the Mayo Clinic.
“It can occur within seconds or minutes of exposure to something you’re allergic to, such as peanuts or bee stings,” according to the website. This can become lethal if treatment is delayed.
Skin responses, low blood pressure, airway constriction, a weak and fast pulse, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea are all signs of anaphylactic shock.
Tributes have been rolling in for Kapur in the wake of his sudden passing. His business, Sona Comstar, said in a statement, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden demise of our Chairman, Mr Sunjay Kapur. He was a visionary leader whose passion, insight and dedication shaped the identity and success of our company.”
Someone close to Kapur also expressed to The Telegraph how much he will be missed.
“He will be greatly missed not only by his family and friends but the local community around his club as he employed so many people and made so many friends – he was fun, kind and generous,” they said.
“He didn’t distinguish between his grooms or high net worth friends – when he had a party, everyone was invited and everyone was equal.”
At the time of his passing, the billionaire was wed to model Priya Sachdev. Before that, he was married to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, with whom he had two kids. According to Forbes, he and his wife Sachdev also have a kid together.
