Response from ABC Affiliates
In response to the backlash, Sinclair Broadcast Group, which operates over 30 ABC affiliates, announced it would replace Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a special tribute to Charlie Kirk. Sinclair’s Vice Chairman, Jason Smith, stated that Kimmel’s remarks were “inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country.” The company also demanded that Kimmel issue a public apology and make a donation to both the Kirk family and Turning Point USA, the organization co-founded by Kirk. Similarly, Nexstar Media Group decided to preempt Kimmel’s show, citing concerns that the host’s comments were offensive and did not reflect the values of the communities they serve.
ABC’s Suspension of the Show
Following the mounting pressure, ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely. The network’s decision came after interventions
