These are the consequences of sleeping with a…

A rash that appears with breathing trouble is one of the clearest red flags your body can send. Hives alone can be uncomfortable, but when they’re joined by wheezing, chest tightness, swelling of the lips or tongue, or sudden dizziness, the risk of anaphylaxis becomes real and immediate. Food, medications, insect stings, or even unknown triggers can set off a chain reaction that spirals within minutes.

In that moment, hesitation is dangerous. Call emergency services at once, and use an epinephrine auto-injector if it has been prescribed. Stay with the person, keep them lying down if possible, and monitor their breathing while help is on the way. Never assume a rash and breathing issues will “settle on their own.” Recognizing this combination as an emergency—and acting fast—can be the difference between a frightening scare and an irreversible loss.
