Most people never question their laundry routine, yet the way you wash your towels quietly decides whether your home is truly clean or just looks that way. Kitchen towels that touch raw meat juice, greasy pans, or dirty counters don’t belong anywhere near the bath towels you use on freshly washed skin. Treat those high-risk kitchen towels as a separate category: wash them on the hottest safe setting, ideally alone or only with similarly soiled items, so grease and pathogens aren’t redistributed across the load.
Drying is just as critical. Leaving towels damp in a basket or on a hook invites mold and odor-causing bacteria to bloom again. Fully dry them on high heat or in direct sunlight whenever possible. If a towel still smells “off” after washing, retire it without guilt. A simple color-coded system—one color for kitchen, another for bathroom—keeps habits consistent and your family safer.
