Survivor Of 1998 Air Tragedy Says Lucky Seat Saved Him—Parallels Air India Miracle

Sitting in seat 11A, the same seat as the only survivor of the Air India tragedy, a Thai musician has described how he survived a jet accident in 1998 that claimed the lives of 101 people.

Thai Airways aircraft TG261 from Bangkok to Surat Thani was carrying 47-year-old Ruangsak Loychusak when it stopped and fell into a swamp during the landing attempt.

Of the 132 passengers and 14 crew members, 101 perished in the catastrophe, while 45 others were hurt.

Speaking Monday, Ruangsak claimed he got “goosebumps” upon realising that British traveler Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who was seated in seat 11A when his aircraft crashed into a building, was the only person who survived the Air India disaster in Ahmedabad.

“The lone survivor of the plane crash in India was sitting in the same seat number as me, 11A,” Mr Loychusak said.

“I want to offer my condolences to all those who lost loved ones in the tragedy.”

The musician claimed that newspaper articles from the time had noted his seat number, even though he no longer had his ticket from the tragic flight.

Mr. Ruangsak also talked about his “second life” since surviving the catastrophic accident.

“I had difficulty flying for 10 years after the crash. I would struggled breathing, even though the air circulation was normal,” he said.

“I avoided speaking to anyone and always stared outside the window, blocking anyone from closing it to maintain my sense of safety.”

“If I saw dark clouds or a rainstorm outside, I would feel terrible, like I was in hell.”

“I can still remember the sounds, smells, and even the taste of the water in the swamp the plane crashed into. For a long time, I would keep the feelings to myself.”

Shortly after taking off on Thursday, the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner collided with buildings.

The plane crashed in a fireball on its way to London Gatwick.

Of the 244 people on board, only 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh of Leicester, England, survived.

Today he shared his startling story of the catastrophe, describing how he was ‘ejected’ from the jet before it crashed and destroyed.

While receiving treatment at a hospital in Ahmedabad, a city in northwest India, Mr. Ramesh, who resides in London with his wife and child, informed medics that as soon as the jet took off, it started to drop and abruptly split in two, ejecting him before a loud explosion occurred.

After examining Mr. Ramesh, Dr. Dhaval Gameti told the Associated Press that although he was confused and had numerous injuries throughout his body, he “seems to be out of danger.”

“I don’t know how I came out of it alive,” Mr. Ramesh said in an interview with Doordarshan, an Indian network.

“For a while, I thought I was about to die. But when I opened my eyes, I saw I was alive. And I opened my seatbelt and got out of there,” adding how two cabin crew members “died before my eyes.”

He claims that as the jet struck the ground, the emergency door that was immediately next to his seat broke off.

Mr Ramesh also described how just moments after take off, it “felt like the plane had got stuck.”

He recalled how the pilots tried to raise the jet, but it “went full speed and crashed into the building.”

Mr. Ramesh claimed to have burned his arm and described how the jet swiftly caught fire after the crash.

Before being transferred to the hospital for treatment, Mr. Ramesh was seen staggering away from the jet in shocking video captured yesterday close to the crash site.

According to Mr. Ramesh, whose brother was also on the flight and is thought to have died, he heard “a loud noise” just before the jet crashed yesterday.

“When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran.”

“There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital.”

The prime minister of India met with the survivor of the jet crash and those injured on the ground on Friday.
