Born into a football family, Jim Irsay was immersed in the world of professional sports from an early age. His father, Robert Irsay, acquired the Colts franchise in 1972, and Jim began working within the organization as a teenager. Demonstrating a keen understanding of the game and an early aptitude for leadership, he climbed the ranks rapidly. In 1984, at the remarkably young age of 24, he was named the team’s general manager—the youngest in NFL history at the time.

Following the death of his father in 1997, Irsay officially assumed full control of the Colts. His tenure as owner would become one of the most defining in the team’s history.
