My Stepdaughter Must Only Eat Vegan — My House, My Rules

We’re vegan in our house.

It turns out my stepdaughter gave him the cake on purpose to “teach us a lesson.”

I searched for her, but she was already gone.

Thankfully, I gave my son an EpiPen,

and he began to recover after a few hours.

I told my husband I never want to see his daughter again.

He insists she’s just a teenager who didn’t understand the seriousness of her actions.

He says he’s spoken to her and wants me to forgive her, but I can’t bring myself to do it.

At 2 a.m., I woke up and noticed my husband wasn’t in bed.

Then I heard a scream.

It was him screaming from our 7-year-old son’s room.

I ran there and froze when I found my child on the floor, covered in chocolate.

He looked sick and very pale.

Beside him was a large chocolate cake with peanuts.

He’s severely allergic to peanuts, and we’re always careful to keep them out of the house.

I immediately knew what had happened. My stepdaughter had struck again.

My husband explained that he had let her in to talk, thinking she had learned her lesson. But instead, she had sneaked in the cake and peanuts, knowing the consequences for our son.

I was beyond furious. How could she put my child’s life at risk like that? How could my husband allow her back in after what she had done before?

I told him that I couldn’t stay in a house where my child’s safety was compromised. I packed up our things and took my son to stay at my sister’s house.

My husband begged me to come back, promising to never let his daughter near our son again. But I couldn’t trust him. I couldn’t trust her.

It’s been a few weeks since that night, and my husband and I are still trying to work through this. He’s been seeing a therapist to understand why he couldn’t see his daughter’s behavior for what it was. I’m trying to find forgiveness in my heart, but it’s difficult.

I’ve realized that being vegan isn’t just about what we eat. It’s about the values we hold and the respect we show for others. My stepdaughter’s actions were not just a violation of our dietary choices, but a disregard for the health and safety of our family.

Moving forward, we’ve decided to implement stricter rules in our house. No one is allowed to bring in outside food without approval. And my stepdaughter is not allowed in our home until we feel that she understands the seriousness of her actions.

It’s been a hard and painful journey, but I hope that one day we can heal from this and come together as a family again. Until then, my house, my rules.
