My son’s only three. Out of nowhere, he started crying EVERY SINGLE TIME I took him to daycare. This had NEVER happened before. At first, I thought it was just a typical 3-year-old crisis, but something felt off. Johnny was crying, and he kept begging me not to take him. I promised him I’d pick him up early – luckily, I left work early and showed up at the daycare just in time for lunch. Parents aren’t usually allowed to go there, but I snuck in. And then I finally saw THE REASON my little boy had been crying! Gosh, I was absolutely LIVID and horrified!⁡

Johnny, a three-year-old, had been dreading daycare recently, throwing tantrums each morning. His mother, Marla, initially thought it was a phase, but his distress grew more concerning. One day, Johnny whispered that he didn’t want to go because of lunchtime. Marla, suspecting something was wrong, visited the daycare during lunch and witnessed a staff member force-feeding Johnny, causing him distress. Enraged, Marla confronted the caregiver and vowed to ensure it wouldn’t happen again. After speaking with the daycare director and closely monitoring Johnny’s interactions, his behavior improved. Marla learned the importance of respecting her child’s boundaries and listening to his feelings. This experience deepened her commitment to always pay attention to her son’s emotional needs.

Johnny’s sudden change in behavior was a cause for concern for Marla. As a mother, she knew that children could go through phases of separation anxiety or resistance to new routines. However, Johnny’s intense reaction to going to daycare had her worried. It was when he mentioned his fear of lunchtime specifically that Marla’s mama bear instincts kicked in.

Deciding to investigate further, Marla made the bold move of showing up unannounced at the daycare during lunchtime. What she saw there made her blood boil. A staff member was forcefully trying to feed Johnny, who was clearly distressed and upset. Marla could not believe her eyes. How could someone treat a child this way?

In a mix of rage and horror, Marla confronted the caregiver and demanded an explanation. She made it clear that such behavior was unacceptable and would not be tolerated. After speaking with the daycare director and ensuring that this would never happen again, Marla felt a sense of relief. But her anger towards the caregiver lingered.

From that day on, Marla made it a point to closely monitor Johnny’s interactions at daycare. She wanted to make sure that he felt safe and respected in that environment. She also made sure to always listen to his feelings and fears, no matter how small they may seem. This experience taught Marla the importance of being vigilant and attentive to her child’s emotional well-being.

Ultimately, this challenging experience brought Marla and Johnny closer together. It made Marla more aware of the importance of listening to her son and advocating for his needs. It strengthened their bond and deepened her commitment to always be there for him, no matter what. And for Johnny, it was a lesson in knowing that his mother would always have his back, no matter what.
