Jill Biden was spotted wiping her weeping eye as she stood for photos with Joe Biden, Donald Trump and Melania Trump. A body language expert weighed in.
Donald Trump is being inaugurated for the second time today – following his election win in November.
Mr Trump posed for photos with former President Joe Biden, along with their wives Melania Trump and Jill Biden.
But as cameras were focused on the quartet, Jill appeared to wipe a tear from her eye. While the moment was a poignant one, it’s unlikely the former First Lady was struggling to contain her emotions.
Behaviour expert Mark Bowden told Irish Star: “I see that Jill wipes a tear away from her eye. This is more likely tears from the cold rather than any sorrow for the event and meeting.
It makes a lot more sense to her be struggling with the freezing weather. Similarly, Melania bowed her head and shielded the cold wind with her hat.
Jill Biden isn’t the only one to be battling the bitter weather conditions today. The inauguration was moved indoors due to “dangerously cold temperatures”.
The service began at St John’s Church, Lafayette Square, an important Washington DC church. Then at 14:30 GMT, musical performances and opening remarks were started
This leads to Mr Trump and Mr Vance being sworn in inside the Capitol rotunda, which offers a lot more shelter than the freezing weather outside.
Ahead of the historic ceremony, Mr Trump urged his supporters to be careful. He said he does not “want to see people hurt or injured in any way”.
The President added: “It is dangerous conditions for the tens of thousands of law enforcement, first responders, police K9s and even horses… in any event, if you decide to come, dress warmly
During such a momentous occasion, it’s understandable that emotions may run high. The sight of Jill Biden wiping a tear away from her eye may have tugged at the heartstrings of many viewers, but according to body language expert Mark Bowden, it was likely just a reaction to the cold weather rather than any deep emotional response.
As the inauguration ceremony was moved indoors due to the freezing temperatures, it’s clear that everyone in attendance, including Jill Biden and Melania Trump, were feeling the chill. Melania even took measures to shield herself from the cold wind by bowing her head and using her hat for protection.
The importance of the day was not lost on anyone, as Donald Trump was being inaugurated for a second time after his election win in November. The ceremony began at St John’s Church, Lafayette Square, before moving to the Capitol rotunda for the official swearing-in. While the weather conditions were less than ideal, it was clear that everyone involved was committed to the event.
Prior to the ceremony, Mr Trump took a moment to address his supporters, urging them to be cautious and mindful of the dangerous conditions. He emphasized the importance of safety for all those in attendance, including law enforcement, first responders, and even police K9s and horses.
Despite the cold weather and challenging conditions, the inauguration proceeded smoothly, with musical performances and opening remarks setting the tone for the historic event. As Jill Biden, Melania Trump, Joe Biden, and Donald Trump gathered for photos, it was a moment that captured the significance of the day, even if tears were shed for reasons other than emotion.
