In the evening, I went into the garage and saw this on the wall.

What I eventually discovered was far from a simple stain and closer to a quiet invasion. The strange, layered texture on the wall, the irregular edges, and that slow, unsettling drip were all signs of a fungus thriving in the damp, forgotten corner of my garage. Moisture had turned the space into the perfect breeding ground, and the fungus had taken full advantage, spreading silently while I walked past it every day.

Once I knew what it was, fear turned into a different kind of unease: how long had it been there, and what else was growing where I never looked? Cleaning it up meant more than scraping and disinfecting; it meant confronting the idea that neglect always has a cost. Behind that “harmless” mark on the wall was a reminder: what we ignore doesn’t disappear. It grows.
