The moment a brave man leaped 600 feet (0.18 km) into the air to save his wife and child as an earthquake ripped apart their apartment building has been captured on dramatic video.

In Bangkok, Thailand, on March 28, devoted father Kwon Young Jun, 36, performed the Hollywood-style jump when the walkway that connected his block to a nearby high-rise fell.

The event was filmed by shocked bystanders on the ground below who were documenting the aftermath of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake.

Kwon, a native of Seoul, South Korea, was subsequently photographed on the street outside with his family.

The father of one said, “All I could think about was getting back down to the room to save my wife and child.” 

“I realized it was an earthquake and the building was breaking apart, but I saw the gap and just jumped.”

Kwon’s wife, Sukanya Yutuam, 35, said, “It’s very dangerous. When I saw the clip, I was shocked like everyone else.”

She claimed that when the earthquake occurred, her husband was working out on the 52nd level of one of the condominium complex’s three blocks, which are connected by an air bridge.

“The events that day happened so fast,” Yutuam, a beauty influencer, said. “No one was at their most mindful. Instinct took over and he jumped across the buildings.”

Despite his bold attempt at rescue, Kwon was remarkably unharmed, with only small scrapes on his arm.

He claimed that at first, the concrete bridge had not been divided, and he chose to flee without turning around despite hearing a giant crash since he was just concerned with reaching his family.

When the earthquake happened, his wife and daughter were in their 30th-floor flat.

Kwon apparently realized they had already left after returning to his building and descended more than 40 levels to meet them outdoors.

Yutuam, who goes by Ms. Bowyuri online, said her husband “always thinks about his family first no matter what he does, to the point where he forgets that crossing over to another building is very dangerous,” adding, “I did not choose the wrong person.”

According to The Straits Times, the developer of Park Origin, the complex where the family resided, stated that following several safety inspections, the structure is still safe following Friday’s earthquake.

The connecting bridge’s structure was still sturdy, the company noted, and it was built to separate from one building and stay connected to another so that the blocks could move freely even in the event of an earthquake.

The massive earthquake that struck Bangkok on Friday shook the city, causing high-rise apartment buildings to tremble and several to collapse.

Dozens of people were buried alive in the Thai capital when a high-rise building that was still under construction collapsed.

At least 20 people have been confirmed killed, and scores more were still missing after two bodies were removed from the wreckage on Monday.

China’s state-run Xinhua stated, citing Myanmar’s state administrative council information team, that 2,886 people had died, 4,639 were injured, and 373 were missing in neighboring Myanmar, where the epicenter of the earthquake was detected.

The UN warned the earthquake had exacerbated ‘an already catastrophic crisis’ amid a four-year civil conflict, and the BBC speculated that the death toll may be much higher. The country’s ruling military junta has been accused of stifling the disaster’s scope.

Many individuals are still sleeping outside without assistance five days after the earthquake because they are either scared of more aftershocks or are unable to return to their damaged homes.

Predictive modeling by the US Geological Survey, meanwhile, predicted that the death toll might surpass 10,000 and that the financial damages might surpass the nation’s yearly GDP.
