People were watching to see how things went as lawmakers, high-ranking government officials, and other celebrities converged in Washington, D.C., for the celebrations.
However, some viewers felt compelled to share their intriguing conspiracy notion with the world. Read on to find out more.
One of the main topics of conversation has been Melania Trump’s attire for her husband Donald Trump’s inauguration earlier this week. Although some thought the returning First Lady was making a daring fashion statement, others felt the choice of attire had other motivations.

Melania Trump was dressed in a dark coat, black leather gloves, and a wide-brimmed hat of the same hue. Social media users were quick to share their opinions about the attire, with some even drawing comparisons between her appearance and McDonald’s “Hamburgler” mascot.
However, some were citing it as evidence for a conspiracy theory that Melania Trump has a physical double, while others were making lighthearted jokes about her outfit choice for the special day.
The theory’s proponents contend that Melania left Donald Trump years ago and that a body duplicate for the First Lady now goes to public events alongside the president.
Others who subscribe to the hypothesis believe that the employment of a body duplicate was motivated by the Trump assassination attempt that occurred last year. There has never been any proof of either conspiracy.
One person wrote that Melania’s choice of fashion did little to dispel the widespread body double conspiracy. They posted on X, “That Bolero hat Melania is wearing won’t do much to dispel the rumors that she has a body double #TrumpInauguration2025,” one person wrote.
Another user wrote in favor of the body double theory relating to the assassination attempt, “Interesting outfit today. That hat is so low on her brow, you cannot see her face clearly. I honestly feel like that’s a body double and not the real Melania. It wouldn’t surprise me if Trump knew of threats to assassinate him and decided not to put her in harm’s way.”
Another person posted with a lot of gusto, “THAT IS NOT MELANIA THEY PUT HER IN THE OPPENHEIMER A– HAT BECAUSE SHE LEFT TRUMPS A- AND THEY PUT A BODY DOUBLE IN HER PLACE BUT IT DOESNT RLLY LOOK LIKE HER SO THEY PUT HER IN THE OPPENHEIMER A-HAT SO THE MEDIA CANNOT TELL.”
Others were suspicious because, according to them, D.C. weather did not require a hat; one user wrote, “the melania body double-only person wearing a hat in DC today.”
Others, however, had doubts and weren’t as excited about this hypothesis. One commenter responded, “Bologna! There’s no Melania body double! Why would she miss all the fun??” No Melania body double exists! Why would she be left out of the fun?
While another added, referring to the conspiracy theory, “Are you seeing the BS that is going around saying that hat and outfit were hiding a body double for Melania? Insanity[.] The ears tell the story.”
