To the Family…

The tragic incident claimed the life of seven-year-old Archie York. Later, another body, believed to be of a 30-year-old man, was found under the debris of the three houses destroyed on Violet Close in Benwell.

Six other people have been rushed to the hospital, and it is believed that there are no people missing. The rest of the residents have been staying with friends and relatives.

“It is with great sadness that I stand in front of you today following the tragic death of a young child,” Superintendent Darren Adams said from the scene. “As a result of the incident in the early hours of this morning, a seven-year-old boy has sadly passed away.

“I have no doubt that the people of Elswick and Benwell, and our wider region, will want to join me in extending their thoughts and condolences to family and friends. The loss and pain they must be suffering is unimaginable

. Our hearts go out to them during this difficult time.”

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but authorities believe it was a gas leak that triggered the blast. Gas engineers were called to the scene to secure the area and prevent any further incidents.

The community has come together to support the affected families, with many offering their help and condolences. Local businesses have also stepped up to provide assistance in any way they can.
