If you study history, you realize that things change very quickly over the course of time. What may have been common one day will quickly become unknown within just a few months or perhaps years.

This isn’t only something that is known by historians, we often find evidence of it in our lives as well. When we look at the world around us, we see things that may have been well known to our parents or grandparents but we have no idea what they are.

That is what we have for you below. These 12 pictures are of objects that were a mystery and they almost broke the Internet. Fortunately, someone was able to reveal their true identity.

1. ’’My mom found this in my dad’s drawer. Is it what I am afraid of?’’

Answer: The classic Sunbeam Mixmaster had a juicer attachment, a bowl that attached to the top of the mixer. This is the spout the juice would pour out of. The wire part held a little strainer to filter out pulp.

 

2. “What is this strange contraption with a handle and a sharp blade?”

Answer: This is a vintage apple peeler and corer. You would place an apple on the prongs, turn the handle, and the blade would peel and core the apple in one smooth motion.

3. “I found this metal object in my grandfather’s toolbox. Any ideas?”

Answer: This is a tobacco cutter, used to slice and prepare tobacco for smoking or chewing. It has a sharp blade that would cut the tobacco into smaller pieces.

4. “What is this weird-looking device with a handle and a round base?”

Answer: This is a vintage butter churn. You would place cream inside, turn the handle, and the paddles inside would churn the cream into butter.

5. “I discovered this item in my attic. What is it used for?”

Answer: This is a vintage egg beater. You would turn the handle to rotate the beaters, mixing ingredients together in a bowl.

6. “I found this odd-looking tool in my garage. Any guesses?”

Answer: This is a vintage ice pick, used to break up blocks of ice for cooling drinks or preserving food before the invention of refrigeration.

7. “What is this strange metal object with a spring and a hook?”

Answer: This is a vintage cherry pitter. You would place a cherry in the hook, press down, and the spring-loaded mechanism would remove the pit from the cherry.

Answer: This is a vintage nutcracker, used to crack open nuts to access the edible part inside.

Answer: This is a vintage hand drill, used to manually drill holes in wood or other materials before the invention of electric drills.

Answer: This is a vintage potato masher, used to mash cooked potatoes into a smooth consistency for dishes like mashed potatoes.

These objects may have been common in the past, but as time goes on, they become mysterious artifacts that puzzle the younger generations. It’s a reminder of how quickly things can change and how important it is to preserve the knowledge of our past.
