Charlie Kirk was known for his energetic debates on controversial topics, frequently engaging with critics in open forums across the country. At the Utah Valley University event, he was roughly 20 minutes into a debate when a single shot rang out.
Eyewitnesses describe the immediate aftermath as chaotic and terrifying. Kirk, seated under a canopy, was struck in the neck. Videos taken at the scene show him recoiling backward in his chair as horrified attendees ducked and screamed.
